Idridgehay & Alton and Ashleyhay Parish Council is proud to be a member of the Derbyshire County Council’s Snow Warden scheme. This partnership allows us to better serve our community during harsh winter weather conditions by ensuring the availability of grit for public use.
What is the Snow Warden Scheme?
The Snow Warden scheme, managed by Derbyshire County Council, aims to improve local responses to snow and ice on public highways and pavements. It empowers communities like ours to take proactive measures in keeping our roads and pavements safe during winter months.
How Does it Work?
As part of the scheme, the Parish Council receives deliveries of grit from Derbyshire County Council. This grit is made available to residents for use on public pavements and roads only. It is essential to note that this grit is not intended for use on private property.
Using Grit Responsibly
While the availability of grit is beneficial for maintaining safe passage during icy conditions, it is crucial to use it responsibly. Here are a few key points to remember:
- Public Areas Only: Grit should only be spread on public pavements and roads within the community.
- Not for Private Use: Residents are reminded that the grit provided is strictly for public use. It should not be used on driveways, pathways, or any other private property.
- Conservation: Use grit sparingly and avoid excessive spreading. A little grit can go a long way in improving traction on icy surfaces.
- Safety First: When using grit, ensure your safety by wearing appropriate footwear and taking precautions to avoid slips and falls.
- Community Effort: Let’s work together as a community to ensure that everyone can travel safely during winter weather. If you notice areas in need of gritting, please inform the Parish Council so that we can address them promptly.
